_Lore Creation in Alien Worlds: How Players Can Contribute to a Collaborative Metaverse

Alien Worlds is continuing to walk the walk as far as decentralization and player empowerment are concerned. In the seventeen months since the launch of Planetary Syndicates, which granted players the power to govern their own communities and manage TLM treasuries, the ecosystem has become more community-driven and diverse with a broad range of games, tools, competitions and initiatives coming to the fore.

Maintaining its status as the world’s most-played web3 metaverse was never going to be easy. That Alien Worlds has managed to remain in the top spots is a testament to its passionate player base, commitment to making regular UX refinements, and introduction of community-driven media (games, comics) that extends our rich lore and broadens the appeal of the ecosystem.

What is Tokenized Lore?

Perhaps the biggest statement of intent since the debut of in-game DAOs was the arrival of a new Tokenized Lore model late last year.

Unanimously approved by Custodians of all six Planetary Syndicates, Tokenized Lore builds upon the thrilling lore foundation developed by veteran sci-fi author Kevin J. Anderson (co-author of the Dune prequel series) and compels the community to determine what is and is not canon.

With new lore elements such as races, cultures, vehicles and architecture breathing fresh life into the Alien Worlds Metaverse, the stage is now set for enterprising players and builders to append their own contributions and media: games, animated series, characters and more.

Already this year, with support from the Galactic Hubs grant program, we have witnessed the launch of an immersive NFT-based webcomic, Starblind, and an engaging free-to-play auto-battler, Battlefleet Armageddon. Both projects extend the boundaries of our universe and bring value to Explorers: in the case of the latter, Alien Worlds NFT holders are granted access to ultra-premium ships and upgrades according to the rarity of their asset!

The question many existing players will have now is: How do I get involved in lore creation myself?

Create Lore, Earn Rewards

Alien Worlds’ ambitious vision is to build the world’s largest collaborative story universe. With this in mind, community partner Galactic Hubs has recently rolled out Targeted Community Grants, the first category of which will be Lore Creation.

With this program, community members are tasked with incorporating Anderson’s fascinating foundational lore in their own stories, with the best entries being added to a library of content which the community can vote on once the Tokenized Lore mechanism goes live.

Just think, your story could be immortalized in the official Alien Worlds annals for the rest of time. Who knows, it might later be referenced in a hit game or web series!

Irrespective of whether selected tales become canon though, storytellers deemed to have met the brief and produced a compelling narrative will receive a grant reward. Moreover, Galactic Hubs’ upcoming API-focused grant will give developers the opportunity to bring their own unique creations to life.

In addition to the Lore Creation grants, Galactic Hubs recently introduced a Scribe Community Grant. Those one is geared towards community members who are keen to help organize and integrate the new lore into the Alien Worlds Fandom site, ensuring each piece is aligned with what has gone before.

Meet Lynx

As an immersive sci-fi metaverse to which anyone can contribute, the “story” of Alien Worlds is not so easy to summarize. Thankfully, a new tool is being released that helps users find answers to common questions and quickly get up to speed. A Discord bot powered by a Large Language Model (LLM) trained on the lore, Lynx represents a way to query all sorts of data in Alien Worlds, from the history of Trilium to the uses of Triactor Technology.

In essence, the new Discord bot will function as a creative partner for storytellers and artists to build transmedia projects that sit comfortably within the wider Alien Worlds canon. It’s trained on more than lore, too: Lynx can synthesize information from the technical blueprint and tap into live data from both the DAO and mining APIs before responding to queries in a humanistic way. You could become an expert on all things Alien Worlds just by interacting with Lynx, and armed with this knowledge, you can set about becoming a Syndicate Custodian or seeking a grant from Galactic Hubs.

With Alien Worlds becoming more decentralized, a rich seam of sci-fi lore available for the community to extend and enrich, and a highly active grant program, is it any wonder Explorers stay loyal to the game?

Alien Worlds offers a truly unique decentralized platform where players are more than mere participants; they're active stakeholders influencing both the present and future of the game. Whether you aim to create services, tools, games, or other platforms, the community stands ready to embrace and utilize them.
