How Union DAOs Are Bringing Big Community Ideas to Life

The recent creation of six new Union DAOs – entities conceived to support ambitious community-driven projects – has led to a flurry of exciting proposals being made.

With the Worker Proposal system gaining momentum, now seems like a good time to take a closer look at some of the submissions being pondered by Union Custodians, not least to whet the appetite for the games, tools, and campaigns coming down the pipe.

While some of the proposals relate to projects already familiar to the community – like tower defense auto-battler game Mercenary Battlegrounds which is planning an advertising campaign – others are entirely new and still under consideration.

Encompassing proposals made to DAOs governing Eyeke, Kavian, Naron and Magor, many of the most exciting ideas relate to new community-created games. Alien Legends, for example, seeks to write a fresh chapter in the Alien Worlds Metaverse and compel more sci-fi fans to dive in and start exploring…

Alien Legends

Focused on interplanetary combat and squad building, and designed by the creators of weekly questing platform Mission Control, Alien Legends builds out the sci-fi lore that is central to the game and increases the utility of existing Alien Worlds NFTs.

Both PvE and PvP game modes will be available, giving players the opportunity to venture into the intriguing and immersive domains sketched by Kevin J. Anderson in the official Lore Book. All gameplay occurs within arenas and other infrastructure built by landowners on their own turf.

Still under development, this exciting project has already met several milestones and with hopes high for a Q4 release, prospective players can look forward to recruiting fighters, developing lands, assembling their squads, mining Trilium, and waging battle on mobile and desktop.

Planetary Defense

Planetary Defense is another cutting-edge project that has engaged with the Worker Proposal system and Union DAOs. The strategy game, which combines territory control with collectible mechanics and hosts seasonal events and weekly challenges, was initially funded by Magor’s Custodians but latterly sought support from the Union DAOs to unlock different planets.

This example goes to show that even projects which are already live can benefit from engaging with the Worker Proposal system to sharpen their gameplay, organize tournaments and events, and offer better rewards to players.

With Planetary Defense, suggested improvements currently under consideration include new features like lore-driven quests, better cross-platform accessibility, and more competitive systems to incentivize active gamers.

Minecraft servers

A raft of recent proposals relate to the launch and maintenance of Minecraft Minequest servers, which enable intrepid players to compete for a share of daily, weekly, and monthly reward pools. Minecraft, of course, is one of the world’s most-played games with an active player base of over 200 million.

In addition to enjoying a quintessential Minecraft questing experience, gamers can stake their Alien Worlds NFTs to gain extra rewards. A Naron server has already gone live, while a Magor equivalent is expected to launch in mid-June.

Bridging the Alien Worlds and Minecraft communities is a natural step given the strong synergies between the respective games, and it’s not a recent phenomenon either: three years ago, an interoperability bridge empowered Minecraft servers to earn Trilium from completing quests.

Eyeke Embassy Event

Elsewhere, proposals have been made for various events intended to incentivize community participation. The most notable of these is the Eyeke Embassy Event, which offers lucrative mining rewards across designated land plots.

Players are tasked with collecting unique spaceship parts and blending them with NFTs to forge their very own craft. The cool thing is, every mining attempt makes you eligible to receive random drops of these coveted spaceship parts. Players can also stake to pocket higher rewards.

Then there’s La Ruche (the Beehive), a France-based community project first unveiled last year, which seeks to build a PvE mode into its Tower Fight game.

Needless to say, we’ll keep you posted on these and other projects as they progress through their milestones.

Building for the Future

These community-driven initiatives, coupled with the launch of on-chain lore canonization, underline the decentralized ethos of Alien Worlds where players are much more than passive consumers and more akin to co-creators.

With decentralized gamification, governance, and storytelling, Alien Worlds is ripping up the metaverse rulebook and blazing its own trail by giving the community – Custodians, miners, developers, writers, artists, gamers – a genuine stake in its future.

Let’s keep building.
