Alien Legends is a standalone, browser-based strategy game built inside Alien Worlds and slated for a Beta release in Q3 of 2026.
Designed by the team behind Mission Control, who describe it as “far larger than all existing features and tools of Mission Control combined,” the game is the culmination of two years’ of painstaking development, work that led to the ongoing Open Alpha which ends on June 1.
As players continue testing systems, generating feedback, and competing to earn Trilium and Shard rewards, we sat down with Mission Control’s Shrimp Baguette and Pestilentia to find out more about their vision for the game and what Explorers can expect from the upcoming Beta release.
Strategy, Progression, Competition: The Alien Legends Vision
‘Although we enjoyed building tools and experiences around the Alien Worlds ecosystem - mining support features, mini-games like Adventures and the Outpost Builder - we always had the ambition to create something deeper and more immersive,’ reveals the Mission Control guys.
‘With Alien Legends, we wanted to form a true game world players could continuously return to, whether for a quick session during the day or an intense competitive weekend with friends and rivals. Our vision was to build an experience driven by strategy, progression, collecting, competition, and meaningful decision-making across the Alien Worlds Metaverse.’
Shrimp Baguette and Pestilentia’s passion and drive is evident. Something that shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone who’s followed Mission Control in recent years, the collective having established itself as a committed, community-led driver of innovation.
How to Play Alien Legends
The premise of Alien Legends is simple, though that’s not to say there aren’t many moving parts. Players are tasked with recruiting and training teams of fighters from 12 classes, 7 races, and 6 elements. Because fighters have randomized stats and abilities, the challenge is to build an elite squad capable of claiming the most rewards.
‘Rather than being another added feature or mini-game, Alien Legends is conceived as a long-term gameplay layer that connects players, ambitions, NFTs, and a competitive environment into one big project, still with room to evolve even further,” say Mission Control. Music to the ears of strategically-minded Alien Worlds’ players new and old.
Those who have participated in the six-week-long Open Alpha may already be familiar with the gameplay of Alien Legends, although refinements are anticipated ahead of the Beta release. For those who’ve yet to sample the game, though, it’s natural to wonder what your fighting team is tasked with doing when they’re fully trained. Well, clearing Dungeons (PvE) and competing in Arenas (PvP) for a start.
Before that, though, players must venture across Alien Worlds’ six planets (Magor, Eyeke, Veles, Kavian, Naron, Neri), scouring Taverns to identify promising combatants and sign them up.
“There are hundreds of possible ability combinations,” says Shrimp Baguette. “Each fighter has randomized stats, creating a strong strategic and collecting aspect. Exploring the planets and their lands must be calculated, it’s about scouting and recruiting fighters, delving into game mechanics, discovering effective team compositions.
“The core value of exploration lies in decision-making and optimization rather than simple map discovery; in finding the right combinations of fighters, tools, and strategies in different environments to maximize progression and rewards.”
The Role of Dungeons and Arenas
The Dungeons are probably the most intriguing domain for casual players, so what do they entail?
“Progressing through Dungeons and Arenas is about gaining experience and increasing fighters’ levels,” say Mission Control. “In Dungeons, players analyze enemy teams and strategically assemble their own team of five, plus an additional fighter influenced by the Crew and Weapon NFTs they own. Dungeon rewards depend on Dungeon difficulty, equipped mining tools, and certain fighter abilities.”
As for Arenas, they offer ongoing PvP-style challenges: successful trainers leave one of their fighters behind as a defender, generating rewards over time depending on how long they survive and how many Arenas are defended at once.
“Players compete for positions on various leaderboards,” says Pestilentia. “Other play paths will include completing quests, fulfilling achievement-based tasks, using the Fighter Market to your advantage, or to prepare your optimized squad for the big weekly tournament.
“Overall, the system is designed to reward skill, consistency, strategy, and participation across multiple gameplay layers rather than simple asset holding.”
Trainer or Landowner? You Decide
Being a Mickey-from-Rocky figure and building champion figures might not appeal to all players. Just as well, then, that there are other avenues to pursue.
“Landowners can construct different buildings on their land, either Tavern, Dungeon, or Arena, each offering different gameplay opportunities for players,” the Mission Control team points out.
“For landowners, the gameplay focuses more on strategy and ecosystem management. Buildings deteriorate over time, but landowners can perform maintenance boosts to keep them operating efficiently, since players prefer buildings in better shape. Landowners can also select which rewards they want to receive when players use their buildings, choosing between TLM, Shards, or a combination of both.”
What Role Do Existing NFTs Play?
Mission Control points out that Alien Legends is built around deep, practical integration of existing Alien Worlds NFTs, adding that the goal is to “make Tools, Lands, Crew, and Weapons core parts of the gameplay loop.”
What this means in practical terms is that Crew and Weapons can be used to form the sixth fighter slot in a player’s team; Level items and Faces play a role in the Tavern recruitment mini-game; Tools increase mining power and effectiveness in Dungeons and Arenas; and Land NFTs are used to build and operate Taverns, Dungeons, and Arenas.
Tools, Crew, and Weapons can optionally be staked in Farming to earn in-game currency over time, although farmers still need to actively mine in the shared game currency pools from time to time to benefit.
“Overall, NFTs are not just collectibles in Alien Legends, they directly shape progression, strategy, and economic efficiency based on decision-making. In other words, it’s not a necessity to have hundreds of NFTs or super-expensive ones.”
Looking Ahead to Tournaments
The Mission Control team are keen to emphasize the value of weekly tournaments that will be introduced in Beta with rotating rules and a high-stakes, single-elimination format. Entry costs will be low and tournaments will reward strategic decision-making and active gameplay more than your typical crypto game.
“The Beta will be a more polished and expanded version of Alien Legends, with additional systems like the weekly Tournament, refined progression, improved balancing, and a stronger focus on persistence and long-term gameplay.
“The weekly tournament will be the major competitive event in Alien Legends, with players forced to constantly adapt their strategies, team compositions, and fighter selections. So you better come prepared, as the format is designed to create real tension and excitement: you only get one shot. Lose one fight, and your team is eliminated.”
Ultimately, Alien Legends is intended to be a deep, long-term strategic experience that integrates PvE and PvP gameplay, collecting, and a landowner economy into one cohesive world. Following the conclusion of the testing phase, Mission Control say players should expect a “smooth, fully stable gameplay experience” and a “major step forward for the broader vision of what the Alien Worlds Metaverse can become.”
